OurSheep

At Hof are around 580 sheep. In wintertime they are in the stable, in summertime they live outside in the mountains. During the winter they are fed twice a day and get everything they need. In may the lambs are born. Then there are born around 650 lambs in three weeks time! The lambs stay alone with their mother in a box for 2 days, then they stay in a small group in a box for 2 days and then they will leave the stable not to be back until the fall!

In fall 2007 we build a new sheepstable. A bright stable where the sheep and we enjoy being. The stable is made in a way to make all the work less and easier. It is obvious the sheep love living here!

The first sunday in september we are heading to the highlands to gather our sheep. We ride all the way to the south, under the glaciers to start gathering them. Bring them down to the valley and the round up is on friday and saturday.

Icelandic sheep have many different colour, the most common colour is white. But you can find two coloured sheep, brown, gray and black. Special is ' golsótt' there they are brown with a dark tummy, head and legs or ' botnótt' where they are dark with a white tummy, head and legs. We try to have every possible colour in our stable!

Annalísa, she is black 'botnótt' two coloured!

Jón shaves the sheep himself. They are shaved two times a year. In late november before they enter the sheepstable for the wintertime and in late march. If you are interested in wool, we sell the wool. It is beautiful clean wool, as soft as possible. Just contact us for more information!
