Our Guesthouse in the Summer
In Summer everything is possible, you have 24h a day to enjoy your holiday! Our guesthouse is an oase in the middle of a very alive area. There are many possibilities to spend your day.
Of course is our valley an area to explore. From small walkingtours to daily walks on many levels. There are many waterfalls to look at (as the name is Valley of the Water) and beautiful rockformations. The area is well known for it´s saga ‘ Vatnsdæla’. This saga is about the Viking Ingimundur Gamli. Who was the first inhabitant in this area and lived right here, where our farm is build. You can still see some leftovers of his Hof in one of our fields. All through the valley there are places where he and the people from this era lived and made history. A must to visit is the church Þingeyrar. The first monastery in Iceland founded in the early 12th century.
Blönduós is the nearest by village. There you can buy most necessary groceries, have a cup of coffee and visit several musea like the Textile Museum (http://www.simnet.is/textile/).
Very attractive is to go sealwatching. A nice excursion by car which will be one never to forget. On the way to the seals you could visit the strange rockformation ´Hvítserkur´ and dream away about the life of abandoned people in ´Borgarviki’. The seals will wait for you at Hindisvík, only a stone throw away the seals are sunbathing or swimming around checking you out the same way you will watch them! If you are lucky you can also enjoy the sight of whales visiting this bay. In Hvammstangi there is also a Sealmuseum to visit and possibilities to go fish on the sea on a small boat. The fish you can take home and prepare fresh in the evening.
Troutfishing in small rivers is always available.
If you drive north there is the peninsula of Skagafjordur. Following the coast you see beautiful mountains which end in the sea and visit abandoned ´villages´ where fisherman lived. In Skagafjordur a memorable place to visit is ‘Glaumbær’ A museum which leads you back into time when people lived in houses of torf. Another memorable place is to visit the little isle Drangey where the puffins live in summertime. If you like to do something active you could go for a several hour raftingtour.
